The Assessment & Referral Department is available to assist members of the professional community, 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling (757) 496-3500. Clinicians can answer questions regarding admission policies, insurance and most procedural questions about the hospital.

The assessment process involves a free, confidential, face-to-face interview. We ask questions about the current crisis as well as questions about any ongoing factors that might also affect the crisis situation. The assessment helps the clinician, the family and the individual to make the best decision about treatment alternatives.

If you have an individual you feel may benefit from hospitalization, please contact the Assessment & Referral department before initiating the plan with the patient. The clinicians will make the assessment procedure easier and more efficient for both you and your patient. We also have a Mobile Assessment Team that can respond quickly and is available in the Hampton Roads area.
