Mobile AssessmentThe crisis and intake department at Virginia Beach Psychiatric
Center is known as the Assessment & Referral Center, or ARC.
The staff in the Assessment & Referral Center receives
over 1000 calls per month, ranging from information calls to
crisis calls, but in most cases calls to assist with assessment
and/or referral needs. Assessments are offered seven days a week,
24 hours a day.
Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center’s crisis and intake
department is a unique entity among mental health
providers. One of the unique components of Virginia
Beach Psychiatric Center is its Mobile Assessment
Team. Clinicians from this team may be triaged to local
hospitals, emergency rooms, medical offices, schools, or businesses
as needed for on-site crisis evaluations. Many of our area
hospitals utilize our Mobile Assessment Team for assistance with
crisis evaluations, outpatient referrals, or admission to the most
appropriate level of care in a psychiatric setting. The success of
this team can be attributed to its ability to rapidly respond at
any time; the Mobile Assessment Team performs over 2000 crisis
assessments a year and is available 24 hours per day. The
assessment is performed at no cost.
Following the assessment, recommendations for the appropriate
level of care are offered. When necessary, insurance
precertification and admission arrangements are completed by the
ARC clinician.
We are available to assist you in answering questions
regarding provider specialties, programs and services, as well as
crisis situations.
