The Recovery Place

The Recovery Place, now known as the Center for Dual Treatment, is a Dual Diagnosis/Addiction program including a clinical therapeutic environment, freestanding medical detoxification, as well as, a rehabilitation program. Individuals with Dual Diagnosis suffer from a mental health disorder and a substance abuse issue. Patients in the Center for Dual Treatment

receive the tools and education they need to live a chemical-free and mentally stable life. It is the first step in the life-long process of recovery.

12-Steps

At the Center for Dual Treatment, we emphasize the 12-Step model of recovery, providing education and insight into individual's addiction.

Focus is on:

Medical management
Introduction to the disease process
Transition into the next appropriate level of care

Group Therapy Goals

Providing knowledge of chemical dependency as a chronic, progressive and potentially fatal disease.
Exposing patients to the 12-Step recovery process, sponsorship and support groups.
Promoting awareness of the medical, emotional and spiritual components that lead to increased alcohol and/or drug consumption.
Educating patients about psychiatric illness and the importance of remaining abstinent from drugs and alcohol when psychiatric illness is a factor.
Promoting family participation as well as enhancing the family's insight and understanding of chemical dependency and how it may impact the entire family.

Aftercare

After leaving the program, we encourage each patient to participate on an outpatient basis through Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center's free weekly Aftercare and Multi-Family programs. We also offer a partial-day substance abuse program to those patients who feel they need more support without staying in the hospital.
